Yesterday’s sermon at church was called Battling a Heavy Heart. Can you relate? I can.
Disappointment, sadness, uncertainty, exhaustion…
Disappointment upon learning that the sale of our home in Michigan fell through after a long three month process. Sadness upon learning that a beautiful four year old (a member of Adam’s extended family) lost her battle with cancerous brain tumors. Uncertainty upon learning the fate of friends and co-workers who have been laid off from their jobs. Exhaustion, in general.
The point of my writing this is not to depress you on a Monday morning! (For as many times in the last month that my heart has been heavy, it has also been contented, joyful, full of hope and refreshed.) When life circumstances threaten to overwhelm, it is good to be reminded of 2 Corinthians 2:16-18:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

I really like that verse – It was my theme last summer at camp, because being a counselor at Wildwood was REALLY HARD, but I was able to keep on when I remembered that it was towards an eternal end (changing lives), not a temporary one (my personal state of cleanliness, comfort, and rest).
Such truth. I am sorry to hear of these painful losses for you and your loved ones.
What an appropriate verse for my life right now. I am feeling the same heavy heart yet somehow my faith is continually renewed each day. I will embrace this verse!
Love that verse. It’s one I’ve been focusing on lots lately. It can be easy to get bogged down with the hardships of life, but refreshing to remember that this is not all there is. Thanks for the encouragement.
