Chances are that if you were to plan a trip to San Diego, the San Diego Zoo would be on the top of your list of places to visit. The San Diego Zoo is a decent place to visit but San Diego has much more to offer beyond the zoo. Since moving to California, Adam and I have had a blast playing tourist in our adopted hometown. There is so much to see and do in San Diego that we just can’t help ourselves. Together we have launched a new website (as of Jan. 1, 2009) called BeyondtheZoo.com.
BeyondtheZoo.com is all about local establishments, mom and pops and “off-the-beaten-path” destinations. Adam and I are excited about our new website for several reasons. For starters, this is our first true collaboration (if you don’t count the whole marriage and family thing). Second, we enjoy eating out (or should I say, “we love to eat”) and discover fun things to do as a family. BeyondtheZoo.com is justification for what we already love to do. “It’s for the website” right?
So come on by and take a look. We welcome your feedback. Also, feel free to offer suggestions of must-see places to go in San Diego County.

Happy New Year, my dear family! Well done! This makes me look forward to our visit all the more. I hope the fact that you don’t need to pick us up at the airport means that we’ll miss out on Lucha Libre . . .
You guys are amazing. How you find the time to do what you do…
Just reading through the posts you have, makes me want to come visit San Diego! Someday…
I just stopped over at your new website. What a fabulous idea and so much potential! Keep us posted as the site grows and expands. I will definitely check it out again if we decide to take a trip to the San Diego area in the next year or two.
You are amazing! I think you have seriously done more in San Diego than I have. This is such a great idea! I’m totally going to check it out AND the places you mention!
Another fun experience for San Diegans with children is the once -a-year POP tour at La Jolla Playhouse. each play teaches children valuable life lessons. It is a fun, inexpensive theater expereince for children. This year they are doing Miss Electricty, March 14-15. Should be fun! Check the website: for more info. lajollaplayhouse.org
