The Wait is Almost Over

Growing up, and now with my own family, each family member may choose one gift to open before bedtime on Christmas Eve.  Paul tried his best to convince Adam and I to allow him to open one gift this morning.  There was a lot of whining involved but we stood our ground and eventually Paul accepted his fate.  Waiting is hard.

This week has been unusually quiet.  I’m not sure if Megan and Paul conspired to be on their best behavior, or if it is just a fluke.  They even cheerfully cleaned their room earlier in the week.  The kids have also been keeping themselves busy compiling arbitrary “naughty and nice” lists on the back of wrapping paper scraps.  I’m not sure why the wrapping paper is significant, it just is.  Paul’s latest threat is to say, “I’ll put you on my naughty list if you don’t…”

Speaking of waiting, there is behind the scenes gift speculation and documentation.  Past Christmases, Megan and Paul have requested specific gifts.  It’s great getting them what they really want but there is not much element of surprise on Christmas morning.  This year the kids told us they would be happy with whatever we got them.  They have only guessed one gift that is under the tree.  And don’t think they aren’t trying!  I found Megan’s list stashed away under the coffee table.  She is faithfully keeping track of the number of gifts each person is receiving and she has left room to record what the gifts are as well!

Oh, what fun! I can’t wait to hear what they are getting and how they responded! As I type this, Samantha is getting to have a sleepover w/Bubba. She gets so excited in there that we never let her sleep with him. But it’s Christmas!!! The kids are at such a great age! Have a very Merry Christmas!

Megan is quite a list maker. Very organized.
