One of the negative aspects of moving from Michigan to California was that we couldn’t bring our babysitters with us. In Michigan we had a faithful network of friends who loved on our kids far beyond our expectations. Most of our babysitters were students from the youth group. While they watched our children grow, we had the pleasure of watching them grow up.
This past Friday night was Adam’s staff Christmas party. (I’m working up the nerve to post pictures of our “black and white” themed costumes…stay tuned!) I scheduled a babysitter whom we had used twice before. Two weeks before the party our babysitter called. Bad news, a scheduling conflict. Good news, a cousin would take her place. Four days before the party I received a call from the cousin. More bad news. Adam and I began scrambling. Flying grandma out from Michigan wasn’t an option. Two days before the party we still didn’t have a babysitter. Adam and I both sent out desperate pleas for help.
On Thursday evening we received a reply from a couple in our community group. They had rearranged their weekend plans in order to watch our kids. Before the evening was over, another couple from our community group said they were coming too. Friday night turned into a full fledged community group event. This is just one example of how God has brought our community group together since we began meeting in September. Adam and I are truly thankful.
