Christmas Recap

by Kristen McLane on December 30, 2008

On Christmas Eve I went to bed wishing – but not holding out too much hope – for the entire family to sleep-in on Christmas morning (we had stayed up late at a friend’s house that evening).  Sleeping-in is a rarity on most days, so I was especially thankful when my wish came true.  Not [...]

Pint-Size Jam Session

by Kristen McLane on December 29, 2008

Each Sunday at church we have a pint size jam session in the front of the sanctuary. The children are invited to break out a box full of instruments and make a joyful noise. Here are Megan and Paul the Sunday before Christmas. (I think Megan knew she was on video – [...]

Role-Play Irony Lost on Five Year Old

by Kristen McLane on December 27, 2008

Midway Christmas day Paul walked into the kitchen with his newly adopted Lil’Kinz Tiger and complained, “Meggie [the tiger] is no fun at all because all he ever wants is help and he is always asking for new toys.”  The irony was lost on my beautiful five year old boy.  But all you moms out [...]

Christmas Yule Log

by Kristen McLane on December 24, 2008

And, because it can’t be Christmas Eve without the yule log…

(Megan and Paul agree this video would be better if Santa came down the chimney and burned his bottom. Whose kids are they anyway?)

The Wait is Almost Over

by Kristen McLane on December 24, 2008

Growing up, and now with my own family, each family member may choose one gift to open before bedtime on Christmas Eve.  Paul tried his best to convince Adam and I to allow him to open one gift this morning.  There was a lot of whining involved but we stood our ground and eventually Paul [...]

O How I Love Your Ornaments

by Kristen McLane on December 23, 2008

Our Christmas tree has been up since the weekend before Thanksgiving (Adam was out of town that week so I figured, “why not?”.)  What I love most about our tree are the ornaments.  With just a few exceptions, all the ornaments we own are gifts from my mother-in-law Barbara.  Every year each family member receives [...]

The McLane Family Christmas Video

by Kristen McLane on December 22, 2008

After receiving yesterday’s Christmas greeting from our friends in Michigan, Adam and I agreed a video response was in order. It was a beautiful, sunny day so we drove out to the beach in Coronado. Without further ado, here is our goofy (is there any other kind of McLane video?) Christmas greeting. [...]

Thanks for the Video

by Kristen McLane on December 21, 2008

I’m not going to lie; life in San Diego is good. But part of me that is missing the comfort of spending Christmas with family and friends back home in Michigan. Videos like this don’t help…

Amazon.com Gift Cards Save the Day

by Kristen McLane on December 21, 2008

I’m about to admit something which will come as no surprise to those of you who know me best.  I’m a total slacker when it comes to buying Christmas gifts.  I have great admiration for folks who are done with their shopping before December.  It’s just not me.
So, as you can imagine, I panicked just [...]

Graham Cracker “Gingerbread” Houses

by Kristen McLane on December 20, 2008

Last Friday when our community group rallied together to save the day, they made “gingerbread” houses with Megan and Paul.  They used store-bought graham crackers which is much simpler than making gingerbread.  The ingredients for fun were graham crackers (duh), frosting and candy for decoration.  Yum!
