Paul read his first book this week! Four hours into our drive through the desert (on our way to Grammy’s house) and with another hour to go, Paul was restless. I suggested that he entertain himself by “reading” Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. Paul responded by reading the entire book aloud. He only needed help with sounding out a few words. Adam and I were speechless. We honestly didn’t know that Paul knew how.
Paul is having a “educational growth spurt”. Between classroom teaching and the one-on-one help he receives from the school’s speech therapist, his language arts skills have sky-rocketed. Paul practices his sounds at every opportunity (as of last week he can properly make a “g” sound – as in “g”oat) and he makes a conscious effort to sound out new words. Most recently he is all about rhyming. The best part is that Paul is having a blast with his new skills. I’ve never met a child before who doesn’t like not being in school. Having an entire week off of school for vacation was like torture for Paul! He can’t wait to be back in class tomorrow.

I love that he read it outloud to you, and if he hadn’t you would have never known! What an awesome “spurt” he’s going through!
And this is random to comment here, but I’ve just tagged you!
Good job Paul. Autumn never wanted vacations to come; she loved school most years. Middle school was the only years that she enjoyed her full vacations, and didn’t want to go back to school.
