This little visitor provided hours of cheap family entertainment on Saturday. We have no idea how he (or she) got into our backyard but we do know that he tried and couldn’t fit under the fence to escape.
We debated if he were technically a tortoise or a turtle. Megan explained the differences between tortoises and turtles to us and warned that we shouldn’t test out the water theory just in case our visitor was a tortoise who couldn’t swim. She helps take care of her classroom tortoise, Max, so we thought it wise to heed her advice.
At the end of the day we “rescued” our visitor and delivered him to a new home where presumably he is happier not being stalked by a cat, a dog and two equally curious children.

I couldn’t believe how fast that lil guy is. He scooted all over the place in no time. Did you see the hole he dug in the back?
