Family Book Review: Cole Family Christmas

Cole Family Christmas is a delightful story about a coal-mining family of eleven in the Appalachian Mountains who learns that love and togetherness far surpass material things.” (from the website)

Do you have a favorite Christmas story (besides the Christmas story)? Favorite stories that I remember from my childhood are A Christmas Carol, The Gift of the Magi and even Christmas excerpts from Little House on the Prairie. Better yet, I have memories of my dad reading these stories to my sister and I.

The Cole Family Christmas is the type of book that you might want to add to your seasonal collection and read out loud to your children. When I received a copy of this book to review for the Family Review Network I was happily surprised by the colorful illustrations and engaging story. The story “behind the story” is fascinating as well. The Cole Family Christmas story is true. It was passed down orally through generations of Cole family members until recently when Hazel Cole Kendell, 88, related the story to her granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Liu Bryan. Cole Family Christmas reminds us that the best gifts are not always found under the Christmas tree.
