Paul is going to be a Power Ranger (again) for Halloween. Megan on the other hand has decided to dress up as a cactus. I admit that I’m partly to blame. She and I were commenting about the varieties of cacti along the path of our 6 mile walk when I nonchalantly said, “wouldn’t it be fun to be a cactus for Halloween.” Megan was all over the cactus idea. Having lived in the Midwest for most of her life she is intrigued by the desert plants here in Southern California.
Saying that you are going to be a cactus and being a cactus are two different things. I love the idea of being creative but truth be told I’m a procrastinator and my “great” ideas rarely make it beyond my head. It would be so much easier if Megan were to be a fairy princess or even an astronaut for Halloween (two of my seven year old’s real life aspirations). The bright side is that Megan’s costume will be unique. I think it’s safe to say that she be the only cactus roaming our neighborhood on Halloween. And the time that we spend together making the costume will be memorable.
Just how am I going to make a cactus costume? Your guess is as good as mine. I’ve stolen a few ideas here and here (gotta love Flickr). I’m also open to your suggestions!
