Fleas!

This post is not for the faint of heart. A nasty army of fleas has invaded our home and we are feverishly working to get rid of them. Poor Stoney has rubbed his hind leg raw (he has an appointment at the vet today). Not only that but our easy going Lab who used to lay outside all day is now afraid to leave the house. He even has to be coaxed outside to go to the bathroom. Lovely has fleas too but she hasn’t reacted as strongly.

We never once dealt with fleas in Michigan but upon moving to SoCal we were told that the fleas have been a big problem this summer. As soon as we found that out we treated Stoney but it appears that we were a day too late or the fleas were just too aggressive. Either way, we’ve got them. The more I read about fleas (did you know that they can lay up to 50 eggs per day) the more grossed out I become. It ain’t pretty.

I found Fleas on our deceased dog, Haley, once and I did the same research. I was completely grossed out as well, I kept thinking I saw them EVERYWHERE. My advice, is get the strongest flea meds and don’t go cheap. Then bomb the house. The fleas should be a short lived problem after that.

Yup, fleas have a way of making you paranoid. The vet said that Stoney is abnormally allergic to fleas. The swelling on Stoney’s leg is down and he is taking antibiotics and pain meds. Poor thing!
