Is Wednesday too late to post a weekend update? I hope not.
After the rodent fiasco on Saturday morning we were all wide awake. I had picked up a San Diego Family magazine earlier in the week hoping that I might be able to find something fun to do with the kids. (It’s college football season meaning that the kids and I are left to fend for ourselves on Saturdays.) I was flipping through the magazine when I noticed a kids health fair (Kids Care Fest) in the nearby town of La Mesa. It sounded entertaining and it was the right price – free. Having just moved to the area I also hoped to get the names of local pediatricians and dentists (I think I found a dentist).
The quality of the Kids Care Fest exceeded my expectations. There were tons of fun activities (painting, games, pony rides) but what stuck out to me was that the vendors went out of their way to make it a special event for the kids. For example the kids didn’t just get a pony ride, they also received a polaroid of themselves on the pony. Other little extras were coolers stationed around the park with free bottled water and free lunches for the kids (adults had to pay $2). The vendors were professional as well – informative but not too pushy. Of course Megan and Paul loved all the freebies. They came home with a huge stash of goodies including toothbrushes, coloring pages, pencils, stickers, balloons, balls, Frisbees and even stuffed animals. The coolest freebie in my opinion was that each child picked out a new book courtesy of the local library. My kids only complaint was that the event ended too early (at 2pm).
These short video clips are more for grandma and grandpa’s enjoyment (not sure why the quality is so bad) but feel free to take a look as well.

It’s never too late for an update! I liked part 2 better than part 1. I’m still seeing mice…yuck. Sounds like you’re having fun getting to know you’re surroundings. And you’re on top of things. I don’t think I found a Dr. or dentist until we needed one…about 6 months after we moved here.
Oops…too many “you’re”s. I meant “your surroundings” not you are.
Wish I could have joined you for the Saturday adventure, but thanks for keeping us in mind with the video clips!
You are missing the video clip of Kristen on the trampoline. Thanks for posting the videos of the kids, I enjoyed them.
