I woke up early on Saturday morning needing to use the bathroom. As I staggered back to my bedroom (it was barely 6 a.m.) I noticed an unmistakable silhouette on the floor. Even without my glasses on I knew what it was. Uggh, we’d left the doggie door open over night and Lovely the cat had brought a friend inside the house. In my bedroom. Next to my side of the bed. Yuck! I quickly jumped into bed and brought Adam up to speed with the developing situation. Since I’d removed a dead mouse from the backyard earlier in the week it was clearly Adam’s turn. Except that the mouse had moved from it’s earlier position. It wasn’t dead after all. Double-yuck! Adam handled his husbandly business and retrieved the poor little scared creature out from underneath our bed. It was very much alive – and happy not to be Lovely’s toy anymore. After taking a closer look we are not even sure it was a mouse. A baby rat? What do you think?
One thing is certain…from now on the doggie door remains closed at night!

Oh my goodness, you are WAY too calm about all this. You should have seen my freak-out when a mouse ran past me while I was washing dishes. I got on the counter & wouldn’t get down until Phil had completely cleared the area! My phobia all started from sleeping under styrofoam ceilings where I could hear the little critters running back & forth all night long. No, I am not fond of the furry things, no matter how “cute” some people think they are!
it happens every year at my house. My outdoor cat Tippy brings them in the house very much ALIVE so that my disabled kitty Shadow has something to play with. Now there have been a few accidents where they ended up very much dead, but the majority are ALIVE and running around the house as I and my daughter try to scoop him up in something to get him out of harms way. The cat of course is wanting in on the action and it is a mad dash through the house to see who gets him first. I will never forget last year one got under my bedroom door and ran under my bed. I refused to sleep all night. We never found him, but hubby is pretty sure he got out through the window where the air conditioner is. Maybe he is a mole? Thanks for the cute story and for choosing me as one of the winners in the Unique skins giveaway you had!
That alone is reason enough to get married.
We had a chipmunk in our house. You should have seen Autumn and I every time the thing ran from under one piece of furniture to another. We tried not to scream, but they just came out. Peanut who is afraid to go under any furniture of any type didn’t think twice running under our bed and trying to get under my dresser as he desperately tried to get the chipmunk. Bill finally got it out alive and let it go much to Peanut’s disappointment. (Elmo was still alive then and my big scary cat was more afraid than Autumn and me).
