Nostalgia: “Go and go and go with Milo”

I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was pushing my cart through the grocery store on Tuesday night when I spotted a can of Nestle Milo. My first instinct was to call my sister to reminisce. Never mind that it was after 11 p.m. in Michigan.

Gwen and I were raised on Milo (our parents were missionaries in Indonesia). Milo is a chocolate malt beverage similar to Nesquik. I’m not sure if we drank Milo to disguise the flavor of our powdered milk or if we drank it because it was fortified with extra vitamins and minerals. We discovered that if left out overnight Milo would harden and become candy-like. Quirky…but oh so delicious. We were not the only ones making peculiar concoctions out of Milo. I found a variety of Milo concoctions on Wikipedia.  Who knew?

What about you? What food or drink makes you nostalgic?

I’ll never forget drining my Milo and finding a drowned cockroach at the bottom of my mug. It didn’t stop me from enjoying Milo, though!

I’d forgotten about that story! Ha! Good times.

Mom, you’ll be happy to know that Paul is a Milo convert.
