The move to San Diego is almost here. Earlier in the summer I was in denial but there is no denying an almost empty house and boxes stacked everywhere. I’m ready for the move because I need to return to “normal” life. The irony is that life as I know it is about to change in a big way.
This will be our second move using ABF. The way their U-Pack Moving system works is that on Monday (yes, this Monday) an empty trailer will be dropped off in our driveway. We will have three days to load the trailer before a semi returns to drive it to our new home. When we get to San Diego we will have another three days to unload the trailer. The price to use ABF is based on the amount of space that we use which is why we have been trying to unload as much of our furniture as is possible. We had a garage sale this past week and did manage to sell a lot.
On Thursday Adam has to fly to San Diego for business. The timing is anything but perfect but he didn’t exactly have a choice. Adam returns on Saturday – just in time to catch a night’s rest before getting into the car and leaving for San Diego one last time. The original plan was for the entire family to fly. But after looking into flying the dog (our lab, Stoney) Adam decided that a road trip was more feasible. He is going to try to make the drive in four days and he already has several stops scheduled to meet up with friends along the way. Adam, Stoney and our seven year old, Megan are driving and Paul and I will fly – with the cat. Let me tell you I’m so excited to fly with a cat as my carry-on…shoot me now!
Paul and I are going to hang out at my parent’s house here in Michigan and meet up with Adam on the 14th. The day that Adam leaves for his business trip will be the last day that he will be at the house. I will be closing up the house by myself. I’m a little nervous about making sure that all the details are taken care of. We still haven’t sold the house so I know that I will want to give it one last good cleaning once it is empty. Adam and I are trying to find a caregiver to look after the house but we still have to figure all that out (and as you can see we don’t have much time left).
This is the craziness that is my life. Oh, and one very, very important last detail that needs to be taken care of… Paul turns five on the 8th and we promised him a party with his friends before we moved.

Hey. I have a 13 year old who could look after an empty house if you’d like. Give us a call.
I am very excited for your family. We’ll be praying for you as you prepare for your big adventure.
OH! I suggest planning the party somewhere OTHER than your home. Go to a park!
Oh, you poor thing!!! Craziness! I’ll be praying for you.
It does sound crazy, but I can hear the excitement in the midst of it and I am excited for you!!!! Any leads on the house being sold?
Praying for you like crazy!!!!
