Just Checking In

We are always in the middle of projects around here. Adam is busy with his job. He likes to whine about his long commute – all the way up the stairs. From my perspective it is nice to have Adam working at home now. Adam’s co-workers are on California time so Adam’s work hours are strange. San Diego is three hours behind us so Adam is usually working until 7pm. I guess not much has changed in terms of work hours since leaving the church office. I did manage to drag Adam out of the office (a.k.a. guest room) for a date on Wednesday night. We saw Get Smart. It’s funny. Go see it.

We’ve had a couple showings of the house but no interested buyers yet. Tomorrow is our third showing. Even with the house already on the market we are still doing some home improvement projects. Since we weren’t planning on moving our house had many unfinished projects. You know, the kind you think you have the next ten years or so to complete. Some of the projects were fairly simple and every time I complete a project I think, “Why didn’t we do that sooner?”

I’ve gone through a reading spurt this week. I have a dozen or so books to keep me busy. I’ll let you know if any are worth reading. Sometimes I just can’t help myself and get carried away at the library.

On Sunday we are hosting an open house in our backyard. If you aren’t familiar with an open house, it is basically a graduation party that everybody and their brother are invited to. Here in Michigan an open house is a huge deal. The typical set-up is folding chairs and tables in the back yard and a buffet of picnic food which for some reason always includes mostaccioli. A few years ago some friends borrowed our backyard for their daughter’s graduation party and now we are lending it out for their youngest son’s party. The best part is hosting a party but not actually having to do any work. We recently met some neighbors for the first time who said, “you throw killer parties.” Evidently hosting these parties is good for our image. That’s us, the fun neighbors.

One last piece of good news is that my new camera arrived. Adam George Bush bought me a brand new Nikon D60. It is seriously the nicest camera that I’ve ever owned and I hardly feel worthy of it. But I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t ecstatic about it’s arrival. Even better is that we got a smok’n deal on eBay with tons of accessories. I can’t wait to share pictures on my blog again.

That’s all. Thanks for reading.

I’m from Michigan – I know all about the Open Houses. My mother’s backyard is THE place to be – if there’s a family party, chances are it’s in my mother’s backyard.

I keep a little list of things that need to be fixed or repaired so that I can just plow through it some days — I even put “change out lightbulb in garage” on the list, just so it doesn’t go for months without being done. It’s just so easy to “forget” about it for years!
