First Impressions

I’ve been thinking lately about first impressions. Specifically of when Adam and I moved to Romeo. It is said that “first impressions are lasting impressions” and that “you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.” Many of my memories of the last five years have faded but I can still recall the acts of kindness that were shown to us in those first few days. Having come out of a situation where Adam and I were clearly not welcome, these simple gestures meant the world to me.

A few Sundays ago we were having lunch with some families from church. We dined at a restaurant where Adam and I don’t go very often. As I looked over the menu I remembered eating lunch there five years ago with the Pastor’s wives and Deaconesses. They had invited me for a casual luncheon to introduce themselves and get to know me better. They had no way of knowing that in our last church one of the pastor’s wives hadn’t even bothered to talk to me until six months into the job. They had no idea how much this simple invitation of, “lets have lunch together” made me feel welcome. There are countless other examples of men and women who reached out to Adam and I. They not only welcomed us into the church but also into their lives. Thank you.
