One Missing Cat

by Kristen McLane on June 17, 2008

Explorer Firecat McLane is missing. It has been more than 24 hours and I’m getting concerned. Not that a missing cat wouldn’t be convenient (because of our upcoming move)…but I’m worried of how Paul might react if Explorer does not return. Yesterday he did not appear to notice that Lovely was the only cat in the house. The first time that we let the cats outdoors Paul sobbed his heart out as he watched Explorer take off down the street. Paul emotions range from emotionally extreme to decidedly nonchalant. I assured him that cats knew their way back home and up until now Explorer has always returned home like clockwork. Am I a bad mother for hoping that Lovely runs away too?

Update: Paul and I were talking about Explorer this morning and Paul told me that he had given Explorer permission to go away for a few days.  So then I asked how he would feel if Explorer did not come back.  Paul said, “that’s okay.”  And that was that.  Apparently Explorer has already been replaced.  Paul said the next pet he wants is a dog named Aloha (it’s a beach dog).  And the best part…he’s talking about a new Webkinz!  I can so totally do that for him.

And Webkinz are so much cheaper to feed!

If only I knew about Webkinz last summer…I could have saved myself a lot of trouble and hours spent cleaning out the litter box.
