Let’s face it. Motherhood is a dirty job. My fantasies about motherhood were destroyed after one sleepless night. (This mom needs her beauty sleep.) Okay, back-up. I questioned my sanity long before that. No amount of training could have prepared me for becoming a mom. Seven years later I am still learning.
It is not cliché to say that children are a gift from God. I don’t think I can adequately describe the love that I feel for my children. If you are a mom then you know the feeling that I’m talking about. A few years ago I embroidered a quilt square with this verse: (1 Samuel 1:27-28) “I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.” This verse reminds me that my children are “on loan” from God. Mother’s Day is not really about me. If you are a parent then take time today to acknowledge and thank God for your gift, your child.

Such a great reminder. I had someone once encourage me to not think about what I deserve to get on mother’s day, but to take that opportunity to thank God for the kids he’s given me & to tell each of them what I appreciate about them & why I love them. It has helped to refocus my perspective on Mother’s Day – that’s it’s really not all about me.
Happy (belated) Mother’s Day. Thanks for sharing that verse.
