I’ve been enjoying a bit of spring indoors. Last week I was riding with my friend to our book club when she announced that we were taking a detour. She pulled over to a curb in the neighborhood where the homeowner had discarded three large Forsythia shrubs. They were not yet in bloom. My friend is a gardener and she had spotted them on the way to pick me up. We broke off a few branches and stuffed them into her trunk.
When I got home from book club I followed my friends instructions to trim and gently bang the ends with a hammer to make a few breaks (to help the plant absorb water better). I stuck the branches in water and by the next day these pretty yellow flowers had emerged.

Oooh that’s my absolute favorite! Forcing forsythia! And I still don’t have a bush of my own…yet!
I didn’t tell you…Juliana thought they looked so perfect she was sure they weren’t real. They really are a fresh breath of spring
HOW LOVELY!
I’m always surprised this time of year that seeing a pretty flower- so basic and ordinary- fills me with incredible joy,
after the long, cold winter
I wish these could have lasted longer. They really did brighten up the house. Not bad for a shrub that was rescued from the garbage!
