New Music To Listen To This Weekend

realalbumcover.jpgThis week I’ve been listening over and over again to a new worship album called Empty and Beautiful by Matt Maher. The music and lyrics have really spoken to my heart because they reflect the heart of God. These are Matt’s own words regarding the title song:

“‘Hold fast to the confessions you have received,’ Paul says to Timothy. When you read all of Paul’s letters, you see the transformation of a man into a follower of Christ: ‘I’ve kept the faith. I’ve fought the fight. I’ve finished the race.’ You see the truth of God, despite the reality of Paul’s humanness. It’s the miracle of grace being revealed,” as the chorus to the title track illustrates:

You fought the fight in me / You chased me down and finished the race / I was blind but now I see / Jesus, You kept the faith in me

Empty and Beautiful is Matt’s debut album but some of his songs have been previously recorded by other artists. The most familiar to me was “Your Grace is Enough” which was recorded by Chris Tomlin on the Arriving album. I’m having a difficult time picking a favorite song. Each song has the ability to affect me in a different way. (Update: Empty and Beautiful is officially my favorite song…at least for today.)  You can listen to a sample of the album on the Matt Maher official website or myspace and join in the conversation on facebook.

I’ve been itchin’ to buy some new CDs. I’ll have to check him out. One of my favorite artists is Chris Rice for that very reason. Most of his songs are about our relationship w/ God or about heaven & being w/ him someday. Anyway…
