Adam is in the habit of inviting people that I’ve never met before to stay in our home. The first time sounded like this, “By the way Kristen, this is Dave. He is going to live in our basement next summer.” Dave was Adam’s Northern Irish teammate three summers ago when Adam took a group from the church to participate in Project Serve. Dave did come to Michigan and live in our house for two months the following summer. We had bought a house by then so Dave had an actual room to stay in instead of the basement.
Not too long ago Adam did it to me again, “By the way Kristen, Patti and her family are going to come stay with us during her kid’s spring break in April.” Uh huh. Patti is Adam’s business partner at Youth Ministry Exchange. She and her family live in upstate New York and we live in Michigan so 99% of their conversations take place via instant message. Again, Adam had previously met Patti’s family but I had not. And so it came to happen that Patti and her husband Tom, along with son Tim (19) and daughter Cathi (16) arrived last Saturday night and stayed until this afternoon. Patti’s family was easy to have fun with. I enjoyed the house being filled with stories and laughter (Adam was in “full Adam mode”). Their visit was a nice break from our normal routine.
I’m proud of how Megan and Paul gave up their rooms this week without (much) complaint. As Patti’s family was packing up this morning Paul sneaked into the bathroom to grab the can of Oust. He announced that he was getting rid of the big boy smell in his room.
The McLane house is quiet now and we miss our friends (thanks for coming to visit).

We call the big boy smell, boys dorm room smell.
I love having company & wish we had more space available. I never saw a picture of your house…it’s really nice. Are you able to use the attic space as a bedroom, or is the window just cosmetic?
The attic space is purely for storage. It is kinda cool and creepy all at the same time.
