Let’s Go On A Mommy Date (Book Giveaway)

1195598489_lets-go-on-a-mommy-date-large.jpgYou may have been living under a rock if you haven’t heard of bestselling author Karen Kingsbury. Nine of her thirty plus novels have been #1 on national bestseller lists. I have read my fair share of Karen Kingsbury novels and I have to tell you that they are the ultimate “keep a box of tissues nearby” books.

Did you know that Karen also writes children’s books? She is, after all, a mother of six kids (three are adopted from Haiti). Let’s Go on a Mommy Date is the sweet story about a mom spending quality time with her children. I love the last stanza of the book:

See, time will take you far from here; you’re growing way too fast.

All I want is Mommy time to make the moments last.

Something we’ll remember so that come some far-off day,

you’ll know how much I loved you ’cause we took the time to play.

You may have had “older” parents tell you, “Before you know it your children will be grown up.” Let’s Go On A Mommy Date is a great reminder to treasure time with our children (not just by doing since moms are constantly “busy” for our kids but by being with them). A mommy date might be as elaborate as a trip to the zoo or as simple as reading a book together.

Let’s Go On A Mommy Date is recommended for kids ages 4-8. Mother’s day will be here soon (May 11) and this would be a great book to gift to a mother along with gift certificates or tickets to a local attraction. (Or give the book as a gift to a child with the same idea.) Time is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children to show them that they are important.

I love Karen Kingsbury books. Her book “Let Me Hold You Longer” brought tears to my eyes when I read it. One of our favourite Mommy dates used to be going for pizza together when my husband was travelling. It would get us out of the house for a walk, I didn’t need to cook, and we would have time to visit together before starting back home again.

I really need to start doing mommy dates with my three boys. Maybe this book would help get me started! :)

Awww, this book sounds darling! My favorite date with my kids is when we go out, just us, and visit the local petting zoo and go get ice cream afterwards. :)

my 4 year old daughter and I have a standing once a month (at least) Sunday lunch date after church. It is something she thought of, and is really important one on one time without Dad or younger sibling! We both love it!

This post is a great reminder how fast time goes and how important it is to spend time with your kids! I like to take one of my three kids to Top Pot Donuts — a gourmet donut store in our area. They feel so special picking out their own donut and we sit and read books to each other after we’re done eating.

My husband takes one of our young children in the jogging stroller with him. He always takes the time to let them hop out and jog for a little of the way. They love it!

My favorite date with my son is going to church (although he’s so mobile and I cannot really concentrate on the sermon) …and also going to the grocery (the grocery is a huge educational site for him).

I think I need this book :( I keep planning on going on mommy-dates with my boys, but it hasn’t really happened.

i try and go for a walk on nice days with my daughters, and stop by the park… they are still too small to enjoy the swing or monkey bars. (they’re 6 months old) but some fresh air, a couple of bubles and mommy’s narations, make for a great outing…. :)

My baby is only 8 months and we’re together all the time right now, but he’s already growing up so fast!

I like to take parts of the city we don’t normally go to: Uptown or the various ethnic enclaves and buy weird treats.

I like taking my son to the pool. He stays really close to me while he usually runs off in other settings.

Daddy likes taking him to Pump it Up!
