Let’s Go On A Mommy Date (Book Giveaway)
You may have been living under a rock if you haven’t heard of bestselling author Karen Kingsbury. Nine of her thirty plus novels have been #1 on national bestseller lists. I have read my fair share of Karen Kingsbury novels and I have to tell you that they are the ultimate “keep a box of tissues nearby” books.
Did you know that Karen also writes children’s books? She is, after all, a mother of six kids (three are adopted from Haiti). Let’s Go on a Mommy Date is the sweet story about a mom spending quality time with her children. I love the last stanza of the book:
See, time will take you far from here; you’re growing way too fast.
All I want is Mommy time to make the moments last.
Something we’ll remember so that come some far-off day,
you’ll know how much I loved you ’cause we took the time to play.
You may have had “older” parents tell you, “Before you know it your children will be grown up.” Let’s Go On A Mommy Date is a great reminder to treasure time with our children (not just by doing since moms are constantly “busy” for our kids but by being with them). A mommy date might be as elaborate as a trip to the zoo or as simple as reading a book together.
Let’s Go On A Mommy Date is recommended for kids ages 4-8. Mother’s day will be here soon (May 11) and this would be a great book to gift to a mother along with gift certificates or tickets to a local attraction. (Or give the book as a gift to a child with the same idea.) Time is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children to show them that they are important.
Win It!
One reader will win a copy of Let’s Go On A Mommy Date courtesy of ZonderKidz. Enter by commenting on your favorite date activity with your children (or just leave a comment). It is also important for dad’s to schedule time with their kids. I’d love to hear about your “daddy dates” too! The giveaway will end at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29th. I will notify the winner via e-mail.
I’m extending my Let’s Make A Joyful Noise book giveaway for one more week until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22nd. Enter today!

April 15th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
We go to the library and check out books together than share a cookie at a bakery. I do childcare so our “alone time” is so important. My daughter is 2.
April 15th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
My daughter and I have a few activities we do during the week such as baby yoga, storytime, going to the park, she goes to the kids club at the gym, and the nursery at church. Great giveaway, thanks!
April 15th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Any one-on-one time with my kids is special…when there are four vying for my attention, not to mention babysitting kids! Going to the library is Abbie’s favorite activity, Grace likes going to the store, and the boys love doing anything with their daddy - a trip to the city dump is fun when you get to watch the big equipment, or a couple hours at the work site cleaning up nails.

I love going to the park with my kids!
April 15th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
As a Mom of two adult daughters (21&24) I do know how fast they grow. But I got lucky I am doing it all over again. I now have two more daughters (5&2). Our favorite date is to go to the playground with a picnic and just run, play, eat and have fun.
April 15th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Our favorite family date is sitting down at the dinner table. We enjoy a home cooked meal and lots of conversation. Thanks,Cindi

I love the idea of this book! I am adopting our first born from Russia. (I think Karen K., the author, is also an adoptive mother). I don’t have a favorite family date yet since we don’t have a child. My husband and I love to treat ourself to ice cream for a date.

We love going to the park and let the kids play around. We’ll then have a picnic and walk home again. Now with a 3rd who’s about to crawl, it’ll be even more fun!! Thanks for the great give away!

I like to wake my 4 year old up early on Saturday mornings and we go for donuts and then garage sale all morning. We both go home with special garage sale treats and wonderful memories of Saturday morning donuts.
April 15th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
We take walks and talk about nature everyday even saying “hi” to the dogs and rabbits!
April 15th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
We like to go for icecream and a walk at the park.
April 15th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
My favorite thing is to have a picnic! Even if it is only inside the house!
April 15th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
My one-year-old daughter loves being outside, so since the weather warmed up we’ve been gardening together. She doesn’t do much besides get dirty, but that just means we get to share bathtime afterward.
April 15th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
I love reading to my son and watching movies with him.
April 15th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
We love going to the playground, or bike rides. Anything outside now that it is Spring!!
April 15th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
My kids are quite little yet, but we are starting to get out and go to the park and go out for ice cream, which they love!
April 15th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Talking a walk in his stroller - he’s only 5 months!
April 15th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
My sweet girl is only 8 months old, so I’m with Jean in that some of our best times are just taking walks in the stroller.
April 15th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
We do dates to the park for some one on one time.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
We love to take trips to the zoo. Each time we see the kids favorite animals, then take time to look at “details” - things that we didn’t notice before! We take a picture of or draw our favorite things there.
April 16th, 2008 at 12:07 am
My 14 month old daughter and I just started taking a wonderful music class together. It has been such an incredible bonding experience. We have a blast and I look forward to it every week!
April 16th, 2008 at 4:05 am
I really love anything that brings joy to my 18 month old sons face. It is the simple things like the park that are the little pleasures.
April 16th, 2008 at 5:33 am
My son is an avid fisherman and he ties his own fishing flies. He is teaching the 8 year old how to cast and the 4 year old uses his little plastic rod. It is so cute to see them bonding. I think this would be a really nice Mother’s Day gift for the kids to give their Mom.
April 16th, 2008 at 7:56 am
I love taking walks right now with my boy since he is still little but then we sit under a tree and just play.
Its great relaxation for the both of us
April 16th, 2008 at 8:05 am
My daughter and I love to go fishing!
April 16th, 2008 at 8:11 am
We love visiting the library. We also like going to the park. Honestly, just getting the kids one-on-one is special enough no matter where we take off to….even grocery trips are special! Thanks! ( meg.wilson@gmail.com )

I don’t have any kids of my own yet, but I’d love to give this to my mom…she’s such a fan of Karen Kigsbury! Thanks!!
April 16th, 2008 at 9:05 am
This book looks like it will make me cry! I think my best son-dates are trips to the park or out to lunch just me and him.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Sounds like another great one from Karen! I love to take my two year old for a surprise treat to Krispy Kreme or sometimes just a picnic in the back yard.
Thanks!

I’d love to win this book to give to my daughter for her birthday next month. She is constantly asking me to have a playdate with just the two of us, and I’ve found it difficult to do. I’d love to give her this book with the premise that we’ll make it work at least once a month.
April 16th, 2008 at 11:41 am
My girls and I recently travelled 2 hours to “the city” for a fun girls day. We visited with family and went to a play center where we all had a great time. We topped it off with a yummy treat!
April 16th, 2008 at 11:51 am
I love to take my son on a walk to the park. He’s big enough now to walk on his own and hold my hand. &heart;

I would totally LOVE this for my kiddos!!! I have yet to read Karen K’s books..but I have heard she is fantastic!!
My favorite thing to do with my kids is play outside in the beautiful weather! I love to watch them run and ride bikes and laugh….:o)
Thanks so much for this chance!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I haven’t read any of her books.. but, I keep stressing how important it is for us to have time individually with our (still very) little ones. This sounds like it’ll be a good reminder in our bookcase! With one, it’s all about the crafts and with the other it’s all about the time with the trains — or settling into my lap for a good book.

We try to do a lot of activities with the kids, but I love the very simple walk around the block. One walk, one block, usually one hour. We stop and talk and play with anyone outside!

April 20th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
I like just reading together
April 20th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
I love Karen Kingsbury books. Her book “Let Me Hold You Longer” brought tears to my eyes when I read it. One of our favourite Mommy dates used to be going for pizza together when my husband was travelling. It would get us out of the house for a walk, I didn’t need to cook, and we would have time to visit together before starting back home again.
April 20th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
I really need to start doing mommy dates with my three boys. Maybe this book would help get me started!
April 20th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Awww, this book sounds darling! My favorite date with my kids is when we go out, just us, and visit the local petting zoo and go get ice cream afterwards.
April 20th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
my 4 year old daughter and I have a standing once a month (at least) Sunday lunch date after church. It is something she thought of, and is really important one on one time without Dad or younger sibling! We both love it!
April 21st, 2008 at 1:32 am
This post is a great reminder how fast time goes and how important it is to spend time with your kids! I like to take one of my three kids to Top Pot Donuts — a gourmet donut store in our area. They feel so special picking out their own donut and we sit and read books to each other after we’re done eating.
My husband takes one of our young children in the jogging stroller with him. He always takes the time to let them hop out and jog for a little of the way. They love it!
April 21st, 2008 at 6:45 pm
My favorite date with my son is going to church (although he’s so mobile and I cannot really concentrate on the sermon) …and also going to the grocery (the grocery is a huge educational site for him).

I keep planning on going on mommy-dates with my boys, but it hasn’t really happened.

i try and go for a walk on nice days with my daughters, and stop by the park… they are still too small to enjoy the swing or monkey bars. (they’re 6 months old) but some fresh air, a couple of bubles and mommy’s narations, make for a great outing….
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:55 pm
yay, i love this book.
sounds like a good story.
count me in.

April 29th, 2008 at 10:35 am
I like taking my son to the pool. He stays really close to me while he usually runs off in other settings.
