Megan and Paul are spending the weekend with my parents. Both children counted down the days until they would go to grandma and grandpa’s house. Paul woke up an hour earlier on Friday morning because he was so excited for the day to have arrived.
Adam and I squeezed in a dinner date on Friday evening (the extent of our romantic weekend without children). I picked Adam up from work and we had exactly one hour to eat before going home to host our small group (Bible Study). Then on Saturday morning Adam began his 8-week class of teaching Acts at church. I spent my morning at the grocery store because our fridge was bare and we were expecting guests at any moment. The rest of the day I busied myself with baking until our guests arrived.
It was quiet, too quiet without the kids. The house felt empty. It might have had something to do with the house being clean (which doesn’t last more than an hour when the kids are home). Our guests arrived later in the afternoon. There was a lot of laughter and catching up but I found myself falling asleep on the couch around 8 p.m. (Adam calls this my “eight o’clock nap.” It is not unusual for me to cuddle with the kids after dinner and doze off. But once I put the kids to bed I generally perk up long enough to be awake a few more hours.) Last night I was tired enough to head to bed but I’m paying for it this morning because I have been wide awake since 5 a.m.!

How fun to have a weekend at Grandparent’s! I bet your parents loved it. It is weird to be without the kids. As much as I love a break from them, now & then, I sure miss them when we’re apart.
