Back in November I read about Lydia from The Perfect Pantry. She hosts cookie decorating parties – the party guests bake, decorate and deliver their cookies to non-profit agencies like shelters and food pantries (Drop In & Decorate Cookies for Donation). What a great idea and a perfect activity to do with your kids too.
I just knew that I had to try the recipe. I finally got the opportunity to make these a few weeks ago. The ingredients are common pantry items. And the verdict is that these are delicious! Everyone has a favorite cookie recipe but these just might be the perfect sugar cookie recipe that you have been searching for. They also freeze well. I decided to make a quick powered sugar glaze (mix powdered sugar with a small amount of hot water until you reach the desired consistency and add color with food coloring) for the cookies that were going to be eaten right away.
DROP IN & DECORATE SUGAR COOKIES
3-1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1-1/4 cups best quality unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 Tbsp milk
2-1/2 tsp best quality pure vanilla extract
(Complete directions for the cookie and recommended royal icing are at The Perfect Pantry blog.)

So glad you like these cookies! They can hold up an amazing amount of icing, too. We’re organizing a Mother’s Day Drop In & Decorate event so I’ll be baking again in early May.
They look so tasty!!
I need a good sugar cookie recipe. I’m bookmarking this too. Thanks.
