I Am An Animal Magnet
I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that I feed them but all three of the family pets have chosen me as their favorite. I think its ironic because while I enjoy our yellow lab and two kittens, I’m not really an “animal person.” I treat our pets with kindness and respect but at the end of the day, they are still animals. Some people have a special way with animals, but not me. It’s the same way with babies and “baby people.” I love babies but unless they are my own, I really don’t know what to do with them.
This is Stoney, our yellow lab (he is named after a local area, Stony Creek). We adopted Stoney from a pet rescue. He came with a few bad behaviors (i.e. making unwanted advances towards females - which is especially embarrassing since my husband and I work with the youth in our church and we often have teenage girls over to our house.) Overall, Stoney is a great family pet. He is gentle around the kids and although they generally ignore him, I have caught both the kids playing with the Stoney in the backyard. Proof that deep down inside they really do like him. Deep down I must really like Stoney too, since I make an extra pancake for him every Saturday morning.
Adam told me that when I leave the house Stoney waits by the door and cries for me. One reason that we adopted a larger dog is because I wanted a dog to take running with me. Stoney and I had a great jogging partnership until last year when I was training for my half marathon. It turns out Stoney is more of a 5k runner. One day we were almost home and Stoney decided with no warning to give up and take a little nap.
Our kittens are Lovely Gorgeous McLane and Explorer Firecat McLane. I can’t sit down without Lovely jumping up on my lap. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t even want to sit down during the day. It would be one thing if she would settle down quickly on my lap. But no, if I have a hot cup of tea in my hands then she has to bump my arm. And if I’m reading a book, she tries to push the book out of the way. Explorer mostly hides or sleeps during the day but he lives for my morning shower. That’s because his favorite thing in the whole world is to steal pony tail holders out of the “junk drawer” in bathroom. Anytime I go upstairs, regardless of if I’m taking a shower, Explorer runs ahead of me and waits expectantly on the bathroom counter. I do like that cats, even though they can be annoying. I just wish they could have stayed this cute…

Hmph. I thought this post was going to be about me. HA!
While Stoney likes me, you are clearly his girl. The crying thing is pathetic. As far as the cats… yeah, you can have em. The only thing they like me for is sleeping between my legs. And even that I am sure they only do it to annoy me.

You have great animals, but I understand what you mean. Our dog, Zoey, thinks she is one of the kids and wants to go everywhere with us. Whether its in the bathroom, in the car or whatever, she will whine or bark if she can not go with us. There is no such thing as a closed door around our house. Zoey makes sure of it!

Stoney is a good dog. But did you know that the park is named Stony without the “e”?

I took out the “e”…I don’t know why we spell it with an “e”, but it has always been that way. By the way, his full name is Stoney “J” Bologna. I have no reasonable explanation for that either.

Because it just rolls off the tongue. Everyone in our life has to have a middle name. Like Todd… Toddith Snuffy Porter.

What is funny is that the correct way to spell stoney is with the “e”, but the park does it without for some reason.
I love Stoney’s full name. Not sure how I feel about Toddith though. LOL
