Countdown to MainStreet

1.jpegIt is MainStreet night. On the first Wednesday of every month our church sanctuary is transformed into a kid’s world. The rows of chairs are stacked and moved down the hall in exchange for carpet seating. Kid’s sized buildings and other fun props fill up the stage.

At 7 p.m. kids of all ages will bring their parents to MainStreet to learn one important virtue or truth about God through music, drama, puppets, videos and a short Bible talk from the pastor. After the hour long program there are family games and a snack. One of my kid’s favorite parts about MainStreet is the music. The music is loud and fun. Think dancing around the living room with the stereo turned up to full volume. (C’mon, I know you do it at home with your kids.) Here is a sampling of the music that we use.

The younger children love the puppets while the older children are more into the dramas. The scripts are improvised so you never quite know what you are going to get. There are always a few “Shrek” moments - jokes that the younger kids don’t get but the parents do. Adam is one of the main characters. He loves acting out on stage but when people tell me, “Your husband is something else,” I’m not really sure how to take it. If you’ve seen Adam in the cow costume, you know what I’m talking about. The bottom line is that if you live in Romeo and you have children then I invite you to come and experience MainStreet with us tonight.  I also invite you to church this Sunday. Check out the video on Adam’s blog. We have great kid’s ministries (KidsTown) on Sundays too.

Update:  It’s 6:30 p.m. and we will be heading off to MainStreet in a few minutes.  Today was even harder than usual to keep the kids from bouncing off the walls because Megan had a snow day.  Adam suggested that I take the kids to the movies.  It took their minds off MainStreet for a couple hours.  It is always so hard for them to wait until 7 p.m.!

That sounds like so much fun. Rockpointe Community Church does something similar every Sunday between services called the “Family Service”. It really makes learning about our faith fun and interesting. Its great to see other churches doing the same thing!
