WFMW: Homemade Crust-less Sandwiches

132.jpgMy lunch box secret weapon is the Cut-N-Seal from Pampered Chef. I use it to make my own crust-less peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at a fraction of the grocery store cost.

Easy. Press down.

Time saver. Since it seals the edges of the bread I can make sandwiches ahead of time and stick them in the freezer. When I need a sandwich it goes directly from freezer to lunch box. By lunchtime the sandwich has thawed out perfectly for eating.

Economical. A loaf of bread costs under $2.00 It is easy to control the amount of peanut butter and jelly that you are using since you only have to spread them in the middle of the bread slice. As for wasting bread, one of my children won’t eat bread crust anyway. When I’m assembling a lot of sandwiches at one time I save the crust in my freezer for making homemade breadcrumbs (In which case I’m careful not to get any peanut butter or jelly on the crust area). But if I’m making individual sandwiches then I have to admit that my dog scores a peanut buttery treat.

Fun & Versatile. My kids enjoy variety and these are more fun than a traditional sandwich. The Pampered Chef also has recipes on it’s website using the Cut-N-Seal. One recipe that I want to try is the Cherry Cheese Turnover.

(Disclaimer: I’m beginning to think this sounds like an infomercial! I do not work for Pampered Chef; never have. But I do love their products.)

We love our Cut -n- Seal at our house! A healthier and cheaper way to make the Smucker’s type sandwiches. Great tip.

I’ve been meaning to get one of these – we make LOTS of PBJ sandwiches here!

I used that for Autumn when she was young. I also had a heart shaped one. She loved it. I also used the crusts for homemade bread crumbs and stuffing.

I’ve never seen the heart shaped one. That would be fun too.

I’ve been buying white wheat bread and it is larger. So, I have been using a large plastic cup (hard plastic) to make the same shape – larger. Works great, just push down and twist. :)

We use this same item for UnCrustable knock offs. We also freeze them and when we need to bring lunch somewhere, it is so easy to grab them from the freezer and go. We use the scrap to feed the deer in our backard.

We love to make pocket sandwiches in our Cut-N-Seal. Never thought about freezing them ahead of time, though. Great idea!!
