Unexpected Treasures
Today was a quiet day spent at home. The kids were cuddled on my lap this afternoon when friends (a mom and her teenage daughter) unexpectedly came to the door loaded with treasures. The daughter had cleaned out her room and wanted to pass on some goodies that she no longer had use for. Megan and Paul were more than happy to be the recipients. There were toys, beads for making necklaces, stationary and even a small kid-friendly sewing machine. Megan honed in on a child’s cross stitch kit. It was a half finished butterfly pattern. The butterfly was stitched but the border needed to be completed. Megan took a quick lesson from me on cross stitch technique and then spent the rest of the day working by herself. I remember my mom teaching me how to cross stitch but I don’t think I was as young as Megan when I started. Megan loves patterns so her attraction to cross stitch should come as no surprise. She has already asked for cross stitch as one of her birthday gifts (her birthday isn’t until May…that’s my girl, thinking ahead!).

It’s fun to see them get excited about little things like that…and that they can appreciate hand-me-downs too. We do a lot of crafty things in the summer & I’ll have to look into some small cross stitch projects for the girls.
