Breaking News: Six More Weeks of Winter…Or Spring?

by Kristen McLane on February 2, 2008

main08.jpgPunxsutawney Phil has made his prediction for 2008. His verdict is six more weeks of winter. Americans have been celebrating Groundhogs Day every year since 1886. According to the official Phil website, the famous groundhog has never been wrong. Legend says that if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow on February 2nd there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he doesn’t see his shadow then an early spring is on it’s way.

Michigan’s own weather forecasting groundhog, Woody the woodchuck (did you know that groundhogs are woodchucks?) from Howell, MI predicted an early spring. Woody has been right seven out of nine times. Who do you think will be right?
