Canceling School On The Warmest Day Of Winter

snowflake.jpgBrr, it’s cold today. Eleven degrees to be exact. And windy too (feels like -7). I felt terrible bundling Megan up for school this morning. On the other hand yesterday reached a high of 47 degrees. Which is why I was shocked on Tuesday morning when the school issued an InstantAlert notification closing school due to weather conditions. Romeo Community Schools never cease to amaze me. Canceling school on the warmest day of the winter seems absurd. I didn’t grow up in Michigan but I’m told that it is not abnormal here to cancel school when the dirt roads become impassable. When the weather warms up, all the snow from the winter melts and causes flooding which in turn keeps the buses from being able to pick up students. Ice on dirt roads is another safety hazard for buses.

The next school cancellation will undoubtedly be Monday, February 4th. Without fail, for the past four years that we have lived here, school has been canceled on the day after the Super Bowl. Must be some hopping party at the Superintendent’s crib!

    Hi Kristen,
Thanks for your entry on my blog for the picasso art smocks - I did buy the pattern from Montessori by Hand for this project! (good eye!)

Our school wasn’t closed on Friday, I think we were 1 of 4 districts not closed. The news had 593 school closings, my 5th grader was so mad. Luckily my youngest was making chocolate chip pancakes, so she was hoping for school. I have never paid attention to school closings the day after Super Bowl, too funny!

Thankfully, this streak was broken today. They simply didn’t have an excuse, did they?
