Book Review: Secret Diary Unlocked, My Struggle to Like Me

21leqymmftl_aa115_.jpgSecret Diary Unlocked is primarily written to tween and teenage girls. The author, Suzy Weibel writes openly about her own insecurities as a teenager. Each chapter includes actual experts from Suzy Weibel’s 7th grade diary. The topics include boys, girlfriends, parents and self-esteem.

One thing is obvious, Suzy Weibel is passionate about helping girls realize their identities in Christ. A major positive about this book is that it is written in a friendly, conversational style. It is easy to identify with the author. Each chapter has a diary excerpt followed by the author’s commentary, Biblical advice (“God’s Diary”) and an exercise in self-reflection.

Secret Diary Unlocked is a great reference for students, parents and youth workers. Speaking as a small group leader of middle school girls, you’d better believe that this book is relevant. Suzy Weibel is also a speaker for Pure Freedom, an organization dedicated to speaking the message of purity and holiness to teenagers.
