Santa Hater

by Kristen McLane on December 14, 2007

My son is a Santa hater. These shocking words came out of his mouth last night. (And keep in mind that he is only four years old.)

Santa is junk.

Santa is garbage.

Santa is not real.

Then dad asked Paul what he would do if all his presents came from Santa. His answer?

I would throw all the tags away.

(At least he is smart enough to keep the presents.)

We have never really bought into the whole “Santa” thing with the kids. It has been our personal conviction to treat Santa like any other storybook tale…not real but fun to pretend. It’s not like we could shelter our kids from Santa even if we wanted to (which we don’t because unlike our son, we are not Santa haters) since Santa is everywhere at Christmastime. Megan has been warned to not say anything to her classmates about Santa being made up. We don’t want her responsible for shattering the beliefs of her fellow six years.
