Book Look: I Love You More by Laura Duksta

I Love You More by Laura Duksta

I Love You More is a beautiful picture book written by Laura Duksta and illustrated by Karen Keesler. Laura is quoted as saying, “My mission is to generate the conversation of love around the world, because when people know they are loved then anything is possible!”

My kids loved this book. It is probably a book that it most appealing to the 6 and under crowd with it’s simple rhyming pages and colorful child-like illustrations. It’s message of love knows no limits making it a book that any aged reader will enjoy. What makes I Love You More unique is that it is a flip-book written from the perspectives of both a parent and a child. Laura Duksta originally wrote the book for her nephew. The illustrations suggest a mother and her son. When we finished reading the book the first time Megan exclaimed, “This is just like you and Paul!”

I Love You More makes a great gift for a mother-to-be, a parent (or grandparent, god-parent, aunt, etc) or a child. It deserves a spot on the bookshelf right next to classics like Guess How Much I Love You and The Runaway Bunny.

This book certainly does inspire conversation about love. What parent hasn’t played the “I love you more” game with their child. Being able to express love is vitally important in a parent and child relationship. Love can be communicated in many different forms but they are no substitute for verbally saying, “I love you.” Not only is it important to say “I love you” to our children but we need to teach our children how to say it too. Megan, who is in first grade likes to leave me letters. Here is one that I received last week:

Mom I love you.

And today is the

best day because I

love you love Megan

Paul being younger, expresses himself a little differently. We play the “I love you more” game often. Here is what Paul might say:

I love you all the way to 192.

Conversely when he isn’t feeling very loving Paul has been known to say, “I love you all the way to 1.”
