Group Writing Project: Life with Barbie

Pajama Mommy has a group writing project going on right now and the theme is “your best memory of life with Barbie”. Since I’m new at blogging and not always sure what to write about, I’ve decided to join the fun.

I have a fond place in my heart for Barbies. My older sister and I were fanatics. I don’t know how many Barbies we actually owned but I do remember that we turned our bedroom into a Barbie village. We had the beauty shop, the cars, the “gym”, the spa, horses, the Barbie “head” and much much more. It was safe to say that we received gifts of Barbie for every birthday and Christmas during our childhood. Playing Barbie was also the highlight of our visits with cousins – they had even more Barbies than we did!

One of my clearest (but probably not “best”) memories of Barbie is when I cut the hair off my sister’s favorite Barbie doll. I hope she has forgiven me by now!

My sister and I are now grown up and we have little girls of our own who are discovering the joy of Barbie. I remember that when I graduated from high school my family held a garage sale before moving out of state. My sister and I tried to sell our Barbies but my mom would have nothing of it. She packed up our Barbies and moved them with the family. I never really gave them much thought until they re-appeared years later in the basement of my parent’s new home. They continue to bring cousins together. As soon as we arrive at grandma and grandpa’s house, my daughter (age 6) and my niece (age 7) disappear in the basement to play with the same Barbies that my sister and I played with those many years ago.

Thanks for entering the group writing project. :)

My mom gave me her barbies, but when my sister got into them she took them back. And also because I liked to leave my barbies lying around. xD

I also saved my Barbie’s in my parent’s basement. It was so wonderful to bring them out for Hannah when she was old enough.
