I’m loving my latest thrift store finds. Can you believe I picked up two of these Land’s End Goose Down Vests for a grand total of $5 (they retail for $24.50 a piece). The shop was offering a buy one get one free “early bird discount” and I just happened to find two identical vests in red and shale. They didn’t have tags but they looked brand new and didn’t have any stains or rips. I have always wanted one of these but being the cheapskate that I am I had never bought one. I think these are my new favorite items of clothing. The goose down makes me feel like I’m wearing a blanket (and I’m all about being cozy). But I love the fact that it is a sleeveless vest since I tend to get sweaty and this way my arms are more free to move around. It is the perfect accessory for wearing around the house (see my last post about “mclaneing” the house) without putting on a bulky sweater. It is also the perfect outdoor accessory for quick trips like dropping my daughter off at school in the morning. The vest has a nice collar to keep my neck and shoulders warm so I don’t have to be wearing a bulky winter jacket while I’m driving. Plus the down is rated to keep me warm as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Another feature that I love are two side pockets which are deep enough to carry gloves or even a wallet. These would have been perfect to wear during my last trip aboard the Pacific Catalyst.
If you are not a cheapskate like myself, I recommend that you purchase one of these. I can see it being great in fall, winter or spring. If you are a cheapskate then I wish you luck finding one of these at your local thrift store.
