“McLane-ing” Our House

We have friends who have invented a new term for turning down their home’s furnace.  They call it “McLaneing” their house.  True, we keep our thermostat set at 63 during the day and even lower at night.  Yes, sometimes it is cold.  Particularly during Michigan winters when the outside temperature drops below 30.  I am rarely cold when the outside temperature is above 30.  Unfortunately we are in the middle of a cold spell.  Being Michigan, we are optimistic that Christmas will be warm and sunny.  Tonight however we are experiencing a winter storm.  It is currently 23 and snowing.

If we could afford to keep our house heated at a higher temperature we would.  We just happen to live in a drafty 100 plus year old home.  So we deal with it.  The truth is that our bodies do adjust and adapt to the cold.  And we go thru a lot of tea and hot cocoa!

We keep our thermostat set the same as yours. When we’re up and around, it’s not cold at all. We have throw blankets on the living room furniture, so if we’re sitting still we’re cozy.

Glad to hear we’re not the only ones that keep the house cooler in the winter…it’s 55 at night around here. But since we live in Oklahoma & we have a brick home there are a lot of days it is colder inside that it is outside! The other day it was 63 in here & 70 outside…go figure! :)

I usually just ask people who don’t like it if they want to pay our gas bill.

I think most people keep their homes too hot. I mean 70+ is a waste. Plus… I can’t lie. I like the tea, hot cocoa, and um… keeping warm.
