Funny things that Paul learns in church…

Paul has always taken great pleasure in reporting what he has learned in church.  When he was in Sunday school, the first thing he would do before even walking out the classroom door was proudly show off his activity/coloring pages and tell me, "I learned about…"  It was often like piecing together a puzzle.  Paul would remember just enough information for Adam and I to figure out what the actual lesson was (I learned about a boy who wore a pretty coat with lots of colors…ahh, Joseph).

Now that Paul is in KidsTown the lessons are sometimes more abstract.  The kids range from four years old to sixth grade and the lessons are targeted toward the older kids.  Last week Paul told me, "Mommy, do you want to know what I’m made out of?  Clay."  You see, the lesson the previous week had been about how God molds us to be like Him, just like potters take a lump of clay and mold it into a certain image.

Today I was trying to turn an episode of Power Rangers into a teachable moment.  I was trying to make a correlation between the "good guys" and "bad guys" and how God is like a "good guy" who will always win no matter how hard the "bad guys" fight him (good triumphs over evil).  Well, it was too much for a little four year old to understand.  Paul told me, "Mommy, I only understand at KidsTown.  I don’t understand when you try to tell me."  Well, I tried.  I’m thankful for Chris L. and all the other KidsTown teachers.  At least someone is doing a great job teaching my child.
