My winter exercise routine is in full gear. After two weeks of the attitude that I call "I just ran 13 miles" and then at some point acknowledging that my excuse was no longer valid (…oh and halloween candy being too readily available). I decided that I needed to get serious again about caring about my body. So my gift to myself this holiday season is to set a managable weight loss goal and begin working out again. Last year during the holiday season my friends and I set up our own Biggest Loser contest and the winner was whomever lost the most percentage of body weight in a given twelve week period. We weighed in and reported our losses once a week. It was a great buddy system. The incentive was a cash award. Each participant contributed ten dollars towards the prize for the overall winner and runner up. I did not win a prize but by the end of the twelve weeks I had lost 8 pounds. I continued to follow my plan and eventually lost a total of 14 pounds. My weight has since then fluctuated here and there. Over the summer I was more concerned with working up to running a half marathon and less concerned with my actual weight. I started this week just a few pounds under my starting weight from last year. On the bright side I don’t weigh more than I did last year!
After running all summer I have returned to my winter routine of exercise dvds. I have two that I’m currently following. They are the 10 Minute Solution – Kickbox Bootcamp and 10 Minute Solution – Pilates. I had meant to begin the exercise routine last week but after one day of the kickboxing dvd I was so sore I could barely walk for three days. You’d think that I was in shape from running but I apparently woke up all kinds of different muscles that had been in hibernation over the summer months. This week has gone much better.
