I’m not sure what is more fun…dressing up in costumes, recieving candy or carving jack-o-lanterns. I’m sure that in my kid’s minds it is a halloween package deal. It’s just not halloween without pumpkins. And the reason you buy pumpkins is to carve them. Duh.
Each year the kids get to pick out their own pumpkin. We always go to Millers Big Red Apple Orchard. Don’t ask why, we just do. This year the kids picked out the biggest baddest pumpkins they could find. Trust me, they will always want daddy to come along on this adventure because he buys the $9 pumpkins and mom puts her foot down at $5.
When it comes to the actual jack-o-lanterns I give each child a washable marker and allow them to draw the face. I love giving them the creative freedom to draw what they want. They are too young for knives so I do the carving. Here are some pictures from our jack-o-lantern party. Oh yeah, every year they also can’t wait to eat toasted pumpkin seeds. Then after eating a few they decide that they don’t really like them.
