Attitude is Everything
Yes, its true. I am 30. Last night a group of women from the church took me out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. A few were younger but most were older than me. Why do I love these older women? In no particular order, here are just a few reasons. This is not a comprehensive list.
They are fun. I might be younger but I still have a lot to learn from these women about having fun. They are not afraid to be silly. They make me laugh. They make me look forward to growing older.
They have "been there, done that". Let’s face it, these women have been through a lot. If I have a problem, I know who to ask.
They are sincere. These women really do care about me. And I care about them.
These women understand the value of female friendship. Women are different from guys (duh!). We communicate differently and we "recharge" differently from men. What I need most sometimes is to break from my routine (kids, household chores) if only for an hour or two. I need a good laugh. I need to know that I have friends; that I am not alone.
These women cause me to want to grow. Their strengths expose my weakness. In turn, I resolve to improve my weaknesses. At the same time, I can appreciate that each of us has been given different gifts to use in the body of Christ. Alone, we are weak; together, we are strong.
Why do I love the younger women? They are the daughters. They are learning from their mothers the value of friendship with godly women. They look around the table and know that they are safe, in the company of friends.
I have a feeling that 30 is going to great. For that matter, so will 40 and 50 and…
