Easter Egg Hunt
Today after lunch we will be heading off to Barnabo field for the annual easter egg hunt. It is more like an easter egg gathering since the bright colored eggs are spread out on the football field in plain view. The weather could be worse. It is supposed to reach 45 degrees today.
Easter egg hunts are something new for me. I can’t remember going on a single easter egg hunt as a child. In fact, my first easter egg basket was a gift from my father-in-law while Adam and I were dating. I must have been about 19 years old. (Whoa, 19 sounds really young…am I really going to be 30 this year??) It wasn’t that my parents shunned easter. They actually placed a high emphasis on celebrating Christ’s death and resurrection. I never felt deprived. After easter my dad would raid the stores for clearance candy. I think I know who I inherited my sweet tooth from.
Adam and I don’t buy the kids lavish gifts or take them to see the easter bunny but we have enjoyed taking them to easter egg hunts. I personally like the symbolism of eggs…new life. I’ve also introduced them to "resurrection eggs" that tell the easter story. They are easter eggs filled with symbols of the resurrection story…a tiny donkey, a crown of thorns, a communion cup, a cross, etc. My prayer is that as my children grow, they will understand and appreciate that easter is about new life in Christ.
